We always love when a couple can infuse their own personal touches into their wedding. While that’s not to say we don’t gush over romantic pinks and soft ivory, it’s always fun to see a bride and groom incorporating details in their day that have personal meaning.

As a Virginia Tech alumna I LOVE weddings where the Hokie bird shows up as a VIP guest. Or when a couple’s dog serves as a ring bearer (as a new mom to our furry friend, Enzo, I can just imagine how fantastic it would have been to have him included in our big day.)  Lest we forget how chic it is when a bride and groom offer guests signature his and hers cocktails!

Regional traditions can also frame a couple’s wedding in unique ways. In Pittsburgh many weddings include expansive cookie table at the reception, baked with love by family members and friends. The South has made the groom’s cake popular, allowing the bride to surprise her partner with a tasty treat in the form of his favorite hobby or interest (diehard sport fans anyone?) And let’s not forget the dollar dance, a tradition imported from  Eastern Europe in which male guests pay to dance with the bride.

Whether your wedding is beach-themed, culturally inspired, or a homemade happening, use the occasion to show off your style. As you’re planning keep an inspiration board to guide your planning. Post pictures, textures, and colors you love. This can be helpful not only to narrow down a theme you’ve decided on, but it can also ease the process of conveying that theme to your wedding vendors. For some brides it’s easier to pin inspiration on a cork board, while others will find electronic boards, such as Pinterest are the easiest to manage. Either way, grooms surely will be happy to hear this can also cut down on the dozens of wedding magazines piling up around the house!
